Computer lab project | Sugar, Salt & Pepper - Humanoid robots for autism

A laboratory where educational and social robotics converge with the needs of children and young people with disabilities.

It is called Sugar, Salt & Pepper - Humanoid robots for autism and is developed by the Computer Science Department of the University of Turin, Paideia Foundation, Jumple and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center. The experimentation began at the end of February in the context of the activities of the Paideia Foundation and is based on a weekly therapeutic laboratory for the development of autonomy in children with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (Level 1 support DSM 5). The process is made possible through the use of the Pepper humanoid robot provided by Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center.

“The innovation of the project lies in the particular context of use of Pepper, that allows to welcome children  to work on forming their autonomy”, explains Prof. Cristina Gena, coordinator of the project. "The scientific interest of the research also lies in the fact that the experimental context is not a laboratory or a rehabilitation center, but a domestic and welcoming context"
